There and Back Again
We have stayed in all kinds of places in the 80+ cities we have visited, ranging from the very simple to the luxurious. In the process we have learned a new gratitude for the things we have taken for granted most of our lives. A list:
Another Year Around the Sun
Entering 44 with a lifetime of memories behind me and a world of opportunities in front of me.
Galapaville!
11 Friends and Family from Louisville meet us in Ecuador for a cruise through the Galapagos! This infusion of familiar faces is just what we all needed. 💕😍
Bolivian Border Blues
If this adventure ever becomes a book or a movie, this might be the opening scene:
The clock is literally running out on our chances to cross to Peru-Bolivia border, and I would be sweating if it weren't so cold. The van that brought us to the border from Peru is gone, the driver supposed to take us to La Paz has been waiting with increasing anxiety for 4 hours, and the border guards are not going to cut us a break. If we do not make it through, I am not sure where we will sleep tonight, as there do not appear to be any hostels or hotels on the Peruvian side of the border. The surrounding neighborhood made my Spidey sense tingle in broad daylight, and as dusk approaches the tingle becomes a churning in my gut.
Hotel, Motel, Holiday Inn…
We have stayed in all kinds of places in the 80+ cities we have visited, ranging from the very simple to the luxurious. In the process we have learned a new gratitude for the things we have taken for granted most of our lives. A list:
Surprising Peru
Not sure I had a solid picture of what Peru would be like, but it did surpass my expectations and was surprisingly wonderful in so many ways.
Pop Up Communities
Among my favorite things about this adventure has been the tiny communities that pop up around us like waves, have a brief and lively existence, and then recede back into the ether. Sometimes it’s with locals, sometimes fellow-travellers, and sometimes friends from long ago. But they all are a part of the magic.
Finding Family
This year of travel has enabled us to connect with family members we never knew we had in countries around the world.
Singapore Speed vs. Moving Through Mud In Manila
It ain’t all beaches and camel rides. Sometimes things just don’t work. This is an out-of-order chronicle about the transition from Singapore to the Phillipines. Mostly, we can laugh and know it will be a good story when we’re on the other side. Sometimes less so. Sometimes, when McSpegetti is on the menu, you just eat it.
