A Moment of Gratitude Part 2

Slow mornings

Slow mornings

The same waitress was here the next morning. She gave me a huge grin when I sat back down in the same seat. We traded some broken French and English. I was writing something in my little electric paper thing (a ReMarkable2, which I highly recommend), and she said as she brought my food, “you should stop and focus on serious things.” She’s right.

Somewhere behind me in the kitchen, she is singing. Ava comes down to join me, bringing with her a request for baked goods from the awakening folks upstairs. We set out together and end up choosing a place around the corner. It turns out there is a student learning to bake bread, and Ava and I have a discussion about being a baker/cook vs. running a restaurant (we’ve talked a lot about running a restaurant, inspired by our neighbors the Coulters).

Later today, I will learn something about Napleonic history, we will set out on an adventure, and I will try to figure out where we will stay in Skopje. But for now I will focus on serious things.
