A Taste of Home
The passing of my uncle provided an opportunity to see a lot of my family. It was wonderful to be with cousins (1st, 2nd, and 3rd), uncles, and aunts after so much time apart.
Additionally, I caught up with two of my best friends who we’d normally see over Christmas, but would otherwise miss seeing this year. Rebecca and I met for a fabulous breakfast at this very cool spot called “The Place to Be” in West Hartford, CT and Erin and I caught up over the best pastrami Rueben EVER at Rein’s Deli in Vernon, CT.
I also got in three great runs on the trails around my parent’s home with my “fur-nephews” Bishop and Zaz during some beautiful fall days. Not to mention, a chance to Trick-or-Treat with my God Daughter Mya and several family dinners with all my brothers. Finally, no trip to CT would be complete without a stop at Friendly’s and some D&D of course! 😊
A detour through Hilton Head, SC and Daufuskie Island gave me a chance to catchup with my friend Mary Ellen (during a 9 mile walk and then a Pain Killer!) and do some life planning (and even a card workout) with my YPO Forum for our annual retreat.
All of these interactions and experiences were good for the soul. As I made my way back to Sicily to meet up with Ben and the kids a few thoughts went through my mind:
We have an amazing collection of family and friends
What we are doing is insane to many people, but also inspiring
The comforts of “home” are incredibly comforting
It is very easy to fall right back into the routine of life back in the United States
This sabbatical will be over in the blink of an eye – we need to make the most of each and every moment.
