Snapshot: SNOWBALL fights!!

The photographer about to get drilled by a snowball

I love snow. I love it in all its forms, except its dirt-covered urban accumulation (why I will never live in Boston again).

This winter we threw it at each other, built snowmen, made snow angels, looked out over it from stunning vistas, hurtled ourselves down mountains covered in it, snowmobiled across it, rode very strange instruments called "kick sleds" in spite of it, and pet reindeer in it.

A highlight was definitely my friend Andrew (YMCA kid, now adventurous, kick-butt adult who just moved to Berlin with his awesome wife Lauren) juggling three snowballs until he had the kids’ attention, then fastballing them one after the other at the kids.

I didn’t get frostbite, although the ex-Swedish army guy taking us snowmobiling looked concerned enough to make me concerned. Theresa didn’t catch a fish, though she would have kept us out there until we all froze given her way.

“Hmmm,” he said. “Don’t rub it, you might take all the skin off. Just put pressure on until the blood comes back. It’ll probably be fine.”

I think best of all: dog sleds.
