Getting Closer
We just finished an 11 hour flight from Auckland, New Zealand to Santiago, Chile. Though we had hoped to visit Chile, they require everyone over the age of 6 to be fully vaccinated. Thus far, everywhere has been good with kids under 12 not being vaccinated, so we were surprised to learn this and had to adjust our travel plans. So, we are flying on to Lima, Peru in a few hours and are excited to meet up with three friends from Louisville there; safe travels Kelsie, oSha, and Patty!
Our flight took us back over the international dateline. We officially went back in time and are still on Wednesday, May 18th, which will be close to a 40hr day for us. This means we are back in the same time zone as home, which on one hand is great for connecting with family and friends, on the other hand, it makes the end of our year feel that much closer. The kids are thrilled by this prospect. They are ready to be home and would be thrilled if we told them that was our next stop.
We have about two and a half months left. That is it. Less than 75 days to go. I can’t believe it. There is so much more ahead of us, but as our return gets closer, I can’t help but feel a pinch of sadness as I think about the end of this magical year. We love our life in Louisville and I’m excited to return to our home and our friends and family. But at the same time, I can already feel the pain of loss that will come with the end to this magical year.
